We also supply reliable property and planning data to major comparison sites such as GoCompare and Compare the Market, along with 18 of the top 20 UK mortgage lenders, including NatWest and Barclays.

Role Overview

As the Technical Lead, you’ll oversee a section of the engineering team, champion best practices, and set the technical direction for our products. You’ll play a key role in product development, resource allocation, and fostering a high-performance engineering culture. This role requires a deep technical background, strong leadership skills, and a passion for building impactful products. This role offers a balanced blend of hands-on technical work and people-focused responsibilities. 

You will spend approximately 50% of your time directly engaged in practical, technical tasks, ensuring that key deliverables are met. The other 50% will be dedicated to leading and developing your team, fostering collaboration, and driving performance through effective management and coaching. This dual focus allows you to have a direct impact on both the technical output and the growth of your team members.

Key Responsibilities

• Leadership & Strategy: You actively promote a high standard of engineering excellence within your teams. You are accountable for the technical outcomes delivered by your teams, as well as the performance and growth of individual engineers. Therefore, maintaining a high standard and clearly communicating your expectations is essential.

• Product Development: Oversee the technical aspects of product development, from early-stage ideation to product launch. Ensure scalability, performance, and security of the solutions being developed.

• Engineering Culture: Foster a collaborative, results-driven engineering culture. Champion continuous improvement, technical innovation, and the adoption of best practices across the team.

• Team Development: Grow and mentor a high-performing engineering team. Provide leadership and guidance in career development and technical expertise by conducting regular sit downs with the team to assess progress and give feedback where necessary. 

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work Closely with CTO & Head of Product to translate business needs into technical solutions. Ensure smooth communication between product and engineering teams.

• Process Optimisation: Continuously improve engineering processes, workflows, and tools to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. Advocate for Agile development practices and other methodologies that improve team productivity.

Must-Have Requirements

• Experience: 3+ years in engineering leadership roles, with a proven track record of successfully leading engineering teams in a fast-paced environment.

• Technical Expertise: Strong background in software development and architecture. Expertise in modern tech stacks (e.g., TypeScript, Node.js, SQL, cloud platforms like AWS). Hands-on experience with both front-end and back-end technologies.

• Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and mentor engineering teams. Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Product Focus: Experience working closely with product teams to align engineering efforts with business goals. Ability to understand the broader vision and deliver high-quality solutions.

• Problem-Solving Mindset: A solution-oriented approach to complex challenges, with the ability to make strategic decisions in a rapidly changing environment.

• Agile Experience: Strong experience in Agile methodologies and practices, with the ability to implement and adapt processes that work best for the team.

Desirable Skills

• Experience with containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

• Familiarity with microservices architectures and distributed systems.

• Experience in managing cross-functional projects and collaborating with senior leadership.

• Background in AI or machine learning technologies.

• Startup experience where adaptability and hands-on leadership are essential.
